Musicians started this non profit. For the first time, a record label did not sign a band but a 501c3 non profit organization. 100% of the royalties are funding reforestation + protection of wildlife. A team of permanent musician members is composing the music and lyrics and some great guests feature on several songs. Singles and videos are available. Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and musician-turned-activist Sylvain Demercastel founded SAVAGE LANDS in 2022. 50% of Costa Rican howler monkeys have disappeared in the last 15 years. Due to habitat loss caused by human activities.
Tropical forests are dying. Facing the urge of disaster, Heavy Metal artists have gathered in a music project as part of the Savage Lands non profit organization. The last howl, their first song was created to raise awareness and collect funds in order to reforest and help the monkeys survive in proximity of human settlements.
We do this for them… And also for ourselves, as we believe that everything is connected.
The scream of the Costa Rican howler monkey is very similar to death metal vocals and naturally finds its place in The Last Howl .
